Waste Free Packed Lunch Challenge

Viridor representatives from Ardley Energy Recovery Facility came to our school to assess the waste created from our packed lunches. A third of children across the school had a packed lunch that day. The waste was collected and then analysed by children in Years 3 & 4. Our largest waste (37.5%) was plastic wrapping from cheese, yoghurt, meat and cake. Crisp packets made up 17% of our waste, plastic bags accounted for 9% of our waste and aluminium foil made up 8% of our waste.

Children shared their findings in a whole school assembly to raise awareness and share vital messages related to the 3Rs. They demonstrated how we can all take small steps that make a big difference towards saving our planet.
